The doctor in the pediatrician’s office was not happy with my family yesterday. My kids H-A-T-E getting their vaccinations, and I can’t say I blame them. The sight of a needle makes me want to barf right there on the spot. I was really not sure how to tell them the very bad news….. that they each needed TWO vaccinations. Oh boy, this is not going to be fun.
The doctor was patient at first but then even she was making silly bribes. After 20 minutes of attempting to convince the girls to sit still and stop crying and flinching I can tell she was losing her patience too. Oh well, too bad – what did they expect?
There was one second when I actually thought about giving up. This is just way too much anxiety for a Thursday morning! Of course, you have to read my earlier blog on “The Domino Effect” because this was unequivocally a factor in the dread that took place here today. All I can think of was how angry I was at my significant other for missing out on this wonderful parent-child moment.
To the doctors I have this to say: bribing kids over the age of 6 with cool band-aids and lollipops does not work. Bribery with ice cream definitely does. So I laced it on thick and made promises of Baskin Robbins and cookie dough ice cream with whip cream and the works. As it turned out, we managed thru this ordeal and I seem to have lost 2 lbs from the stress. Not such a bad day after all 🙂
