Blog #32 – How to Organize with Baskets

Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life that can make you happy. Give me a basket and I’m a happy girl. Baskets help me stay organized. I like how they look and I like the function they perform. They keep things neat and tidy.

In my house I have a motto: Everything has a home. Baskets enable my kids to know where to put their stuff.

I’d like to share with you some clever ways I make use of baskets in my home:

We use baskets by the front door – to hold keys or sunglasses. In the summer months, I always have a basket by the front door to hold the sunblock – this way I don’t forget to apply.

My personal favorite – Laundry Bins disguised as baskets. These help me out in the den where we can store all our blankets. I found these in Pier One.

We all need baskets in the laundry room -
for holding stray socks of course! (where does the other one GO anyhow???)

Baskets help me organize all the kids sports gear (one for uniforms and one for cleats!)
I recommend you have a closed basket for this type of stuff since it is messy to look at.  If you don’t have room in the house, possibly you can store these in the garage.

If the above baskets are too large – perhaps you can get baskets that are thin and narrow ….
perhaps something like this…. I actually keep this in my office to hold all my spare print cartridges and paper.

Baskets in the pantry keeps things looking neat.
This is especially nice if you have an “open” pantry with no doors.

Baskets are great for holding all your CDs or DVDs

There are just so many ways you can use a basket to help you stay organized. Hopefully, I’ve given you some good ideas but on the off-chance you can’t figure out how to use one, just hang onto them as they come in handy during the holidays for wrapping gifts.

As if you didn’t think I was already a little bit over-the-top on my quest to stay organized, I can’t resist to share my basket that sits on my kitchen table. It holds my napkins of course! :)

  1. I love these ideas! We are getting ready to move and will implement some of these. Thank you for sharing.

    • I love the basket idea. Baskets are the easiest way to organize and depending on the basket it can add a beautiful touch to any room. I have a few baskets made by Baskets by Vicky that I use in my bathroom for toiletries, for my magazines, and even in my kitchen for utensils. The website is below please check it out if you are an organizing machine like I am.

I also love the hampers she makes.

  2. Great ideas! I use baskets some and know I need more! Even with the storage we have, we are overrun with toys and things we have no place for. I’ll seriously have to try the stray socks basket– I definitely need that.

    • one basket holds stray socks and the other one holds rolled up pairs of socks – this avoids many trips up the stairs when socks are in need (which is always!)
